Double Fine now accepting PayPal donations, releases documentary episode

Double Fine, the studio owned by video game legend Tim Schafer, announced today that they will be continuing to accept donations even after their highly-publicized Kickstarter campaign has come and gone.

On top of that, they've also released the first episode in the documentary series that will accompany the game (and is also one of the perks for Kickstarter backers.) So if you want to get in early and throw your money at Double Fine, there's still time!

If you're still undecided, check out the first episode of the documentary series below.

We're not sure if there's anybody else left out there who missed the huge Kickstarter though. That said, after seeing the awesome quality of the documentary footage, we wouldn't be surprised to see general gaming fans tossing in a few dollars just to see the video series.

Diablo III error 37 causing a great wailing and gnashing of teeth as players worldwide fail to log in. The solution? Wait a bit

A big, online-enabled game having server issues on day one should by now be about as surprising as when an in-depth scientific analysis of a piece of cheese reveals it be be made of cheese. Diablo III? Pretty bloody massive game. Server issues almost guaranteed. What's galling in this case though is that the log-in failures currently being suffered by a large number of aspiring players block the single-player game as well as multiplayer. Yay online authentication.

Oh, and did I mention that there seems to be no queuing system, so repeated attempts to sneak into the just-vacated gap left by another player require manual password entry each and every time? Look on the bright side. You'll be able to Ctrl+V faster than any mere mortal can possibly envision by the time this is over. Seriously, your non-Diablo-playing office colleagues will be in awe.

Above: The horror...

Blizzard's current response? A post on the official forum currently speaketh thusly:

"Due to high concurrency the login servers are currently at full capacity. This may cause delays in the login process, account pages and web services.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while this is being resolved"

So, solutions? Higher server capacity or a queuing system would seem to be the obvious approaches. Other than that, it's just a case of keeping on trying until you get in, or waiting until server traffic settles down into a normal routine. It seems that this isn't a vastly complicated problem at the moment, just a simple case of the hardware not being able to take the strain of the entire world simultaneously trying to log into a sequel it has been anticipating for over a decade.

Still, consider the online DRM arguement well-and-truly cracked open once again. Can of worms, ACTIVATE!

Want some tasty minute-to-minute action while you wait to get logged in? The lovely Tom Francis over at PC Gamer is posting his Diablo 3 review as it happens.

Sniper Elite V2 achievement guide

Think you have the chops to be a sniper of the elite variety? Earning these achievements and trophies is a good way to show it! Many of the achievements and trophies found are dependent on your ability to perform some fancy shooting, as well as taking out enemies in crafty ways. There are some that are a little tougher than others, but we’ve broken down each and every one to help you acquire every last trophy and gamer point. Below, we’ve added videos to help show you the paths to follow for the more problematic ones. So grab your rifle, find a comfy ledge, and let’s get to it!

20 Points/Bronze Trophy

Destroy the V2 Facility and escape to safety

This is story related and you will receive it at the end of the third mission, Mittelwerk Facility.

20 Points/Bronze Trophy

Resuscitate your partner in co-op 10 times

When you are playing co-op with your partner, you need to give them a pick-me-up ten times. Each time your partner drops, you will have a limited amount of time to get to their position and get them back on their feet. An easy way to do this is to have your partner walk through a patch of fire until they drop. Then bring them back and repeat over and over until this pops.

20 Points/Bronze Trophy

Survive 10 Games of bombing run

Just as the description says, simply survive 10 matches of the Bombing Run mode on any or all the maps and this is yours.

20 Points/Silver Trophy

Complete all co-op Overwatch Missions

There are three Overwatch co-op missions that need to be completed to get this achievement/trophy. Once you and your partner have completed Kreuzberg HQ, Opernplatz, and Schoneberg Streets, this will unlock.

Snipe a grenade on an enemy's webbing from 100m

To nab this, you’ll need to snipe a grenade that is hanging on an enemy’s belt. You’ll also need to make sure that the enemy is over 100 meters away. When you have a distant enemy scoped, look for the round grenade just below his belt. Not all enemies will have them, so you’ll need to keep your eyes open for them.

Snipe an enemy through his eye

When you tag an enemy through his eye, you’ll know that you have hit it bang on as you’ll see his eyeballs during the x-ray kill-cam. Usually head shots right in the face will land a shot through the eye without much trouble. There is also no distance requirement, so any close enemy can be shot through his eye as well.

20 Points/Silver Trophy

Career total of 50 shots on explosives

Any object or vehicle that has the red cap on it can be shot to go towards this achievement/trophy. Missiles, rockets, tanks, trucks, fuel tanks, and so forth, will all count. Even the V2 rocket itself counts.

Battlefield 3 premium service may be coming says report

Rumors are circulating today that EA might be prepping to make an announcement regarding a premium subscription service for Battlefield 3 that might mimic Activision's success with Call of Duty Elite.

Battlefieldo is reporting information they say comes from a confidential but trustworthy source, it also came with a few other bits of information, including a March 2013 release window for an as-yet unnanounced fifth DLC pack after the "End Game" pack.

"Battlefield™ Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else," says the report. "First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options."

We currently don't know for sure whether the information is accurate, however they've pegged June 4th as the date for the announcement. So we'll find out at E3 whether this report will come true.

Tomb Raider release date delayed

Eidos announced on their community forums today that they have decided to keep Tomb Raider in the incubator until an undetermined time in the first quarter of 2013. It was originally scheduled for release in Fall 2012.

"We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve," said Darrell Gallagher, head of Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics. "We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can't wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks."

As mega-behemoth releases have turned into annual best-sellers (Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed) it's no surprise to see game makers fleeing those months entirely. These days there's home for maybe two or three other games in those months, but not much else. And with the departure of Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider, we're hoping this could mean greater success for less-well-known (but no less interesting) games like Dishonored, similar to the success of Borderlands in 2009.

Ultimately, this move should be great for everyone involved. The gamers get a big title to look forward to in the - ordinarily barren - first quarter of the year, Crystal Dynamics gets a chance to polish its baby, Eidos gets a better chance to make a profit, and the 2012 holiday gaming season gets more breathing room. Not to mention the game will be even better. Nobody loses here.

South Park: The Game delayed to 2013

THQ announced today that they have chosen to delay South Park: The Game into 2013, though they offered no explanation for why the title was pushed back.

It is now scheduled to hit store shelves sometime between January 1 and March 31 in THQ's fourth fiscal quarter. Beyond that, no clarification has been provided.

It's been more than a rough year for THQ. Things started off with a bang when it was rumored THQ had canceled their entire 2014 lineup of games. Then came 170 layoffs which sparked a fundamental restructuring of Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium and a delay of Darksiders 2. So far, for the rest of 2012, the only game THQ has scheduled is their annual WWE licensed wrestling game.
