Diablo III confirmed for Xbox 360, hits consoles in September

Blizzard has announced an Xbox 360 version of Diablo III alongside a release date of September 3 on Microsoft’s console and PS3. PlayStation versions of the action RPG were first confirmed at Sony’s PS4 reveal event in February, but an Xbox 360 edition wasn’t official until today. Asked if an Xbox One release is also on the cards, a Blizzard spokesperson told Joystiq the company didn’t have any further platform announcements to share “at this time”.

The console versions of Diablo III will feature a “dynamic camera perspective that puts your hero front and center” of the action, a new user interface and a fresh control system designed for pads. They’ll also support a four-player co-op mode, either locally on a single screen, online, or through a combination of the two.

Participating retailers are now taking pre-orders for the console versions of the game, which have a suggested retail price of $59.99. Those who pre-order will receive access to an exclusive in-game bonus item, the Infernal Helm, which grants an experience point boost to any character who wears it. Both versions will be fully localised in English, German, French, Latin American Spanish, European Spanish, Russian, Italian, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime commented: "Playing Diablo III on a big screen with your friends brings a whole new level of intensity to the game, and with all of the control and interface adaptations we've made, it's extremely fun to play on PS3 and Xbox 360. In addition to the fine-tuning we've done for the console versions, we're also including major content and design updates we've made to the PC version over the past year."

The PC version of the game has sold over 12 million copies since releasing last May. We said in our original Diablo III review: “Though it might lose the long life that the previous Diablo had due to missteps with new features, it’s still an extremely fun game, and a worthy successor to the Diablo throne.”

The gang's back together in this Saints Row IV trailer

Even as the world goes mad, Saints Row IV remembers its roots. The trailer below shows us the passion of the President (who happens to be naked for, like, half of it) and the many familiar faces he'll rely on to bring down the alien threat to his constituents.

Ben King, leader of the Vice Kings from the original game, and Saints Row 2-era stoner Shaundi, rejoin the fun, and... well, Keith David already voiced a character in the series (Saints founder Julius Little) but sure, why not cast him as himself?!

We'll see more of Saints Row IV at E3 next week, and you can grab it on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20.

Conveniences abound in Xbox One controller redesign

A cross-shaped directional pad. Rumbling triggers. Rad buttons. We've seen a lot of consternation about the Xbox One as a video game console (and done some ourselves), but Microsoft's latest post on its new-and-improved gamepad makes us excited to get our hands on the controller, at the very least.

The joysticks and triggers both require less force to press, and the buttons are placed closer together for easier combinations on top of the aforementioned D-pad and force feedback, among other tweaks.

The Xbox One controller also sports a few mundane but useful sounding upgrades: instead of turning off after a brief period of inactivity, the controller enters a low-power state and immediately wakes up when used again. That should make watching Netflix or other videos with a controller as a remote much more palatable.

You can preserve the controller's AA batteries by plugging in a generic USB Micro cable, so it sounds like the odd divide between Wired and Wireless 360 controllers will no longer be a concern.

Consoles aside, which next-gen controller do you prefer?

First details on the debut game by Respawn Entertainment--a studio made up of ex-Call of Duty creators--have leaked. According to a NeoGaf user, who posted an image taken from the latest digital edition of GameInformer, it's called TitanFall. The big news is that it's exclusive to Xbox and PC, and that there will be a version for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

TitanFall apparently focuses on multiplayer combat (but isn't necessarily multiplayer ONLY), with a 'David versus Goliath' style combat mechanic, where heavily armoured foot-soldiers take on giant mechs. According to sources, the combat is quick and agile, unlike mech titles like Mech Warrior and Steel Battalion, and the foot soldiers will have the right load-out options to take on the mechs (known as Titans) if they decide to. Expect it to play out a lot like free-to-play hit Hawken.

Other details are scarce. According to the NeoGaf thread the game uses plenty of Cloud functionality, and Respawn themselves are not working on the 360 version--they're focusing on Titan Fall for Xbox One and PC.

More news on TitanFall soon. Expect a full reveal next week at E3. In the meantime, check out our timely feature on why paid for exclusives--like TitanFall--are here to stay.

Only time will tell how it is. I just hope it does away with perks and has some form of map control and/or legitimate tactics. A man can dream. Reply Report

*sigh* I was really hoping Respawn were going to pull something totally fresh out of the bag or redefine the military FPS as a big "fuck you" to Activision instead of yet another sci-fi blaster.I'm not generally a fan of sci-fi in general but mechs are among the worst offenders (along with intergalactic federations and guns that go "pew pew"). I'm interested. I hope they show gameplay at E3. Reply Report

Wow... This looks... Umm... Great? So fresh, so original, who wouldn't want to play another generic sci-fi FPS? I mean, especially one that is centered around multiplayer. Reply Report

First of all, Sisational, it's coming to PC and is not limited to the Xbox. Secondly, Z-man427, it states that it IS NOT necessarily multiplayer only. Did you two actually read this article?!? Reply Report

Z-man427 - 7 hours, 11 minutes ago

I made my comment before the edit. But if it's multiplayer focused, that usually means the singleplayer suffers. I'm a singleplayer gamer. If a game is multiplayer focused, I pass on it.No need to get uppity. Reply Report

Bloodstorm - 6 hours, 49 minutes ago

What is probably means is that "single player" is just offline multiplayer with bots, and possibly some half-arsed story. Reply Report

Sinsational - 6 hours, 46 minutes ago

First of all, 0Deatprrof0, there's this nifty feature called the Reply button, located just beneath the comment. I suggest using it.Secondly, I don't care about a PC version.Thirdly, look at the title of the article. EXCLUSIVE. Look at the references throughout the article. EXCLUSIVE. Did I actually read the article? Yes, yes I did. Did you? Reply Report

There's your reply button. Read it? Did you? "....they're focusing on Titan Fall for Xbox One and PC." Yep, seems you did read it. My bad. I apologize for misunderstanding that obvious fact. Reply Report

I'm with you on that I too prefer single player over multiplayer. Multiplayer is always last on my list when it comes to purchasing games. Reply Report

BladedFalcon - 7 hours, 49 minutes ago

Oh hey! It's yet another multiplayer focused shooter! we don't nearly have enough of those! *rolls eyes*At any rate, if this game is published by EA, pretty sure it won't stay exclusive forever... But even if it does *shrugs* don't really think I'll miss it much, specially if it's focus does lie on Multiplayer. Reply Report

Sinsational - 7 hours, 54 minutes ago

Well, this is a relief. That's one less exclusive I'll have to worry about. If I want a multiplayer shooter, I'll just go with Planetside 2, which will have large scale battles on entire planets between armies of players.Xbone can keep it's Mech game. I'll take global wars full of players any day of the week. Reply Report

Hopefully with them focussing on two systems rather than multiple and not being limited to a two year development span unlike with the Call of Duty series, they can show that they can make something new, interesting and fun if they're allowed the freedom to, rather than just milking the COD franchise. Also hopefully this means the PC port won't be completely ass unlike games in the COD series. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 set for winter release

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is coming this winter. The conclusion to the series which--spoiler alert if you haven't finished the first one--saw its main character transformed into Dracula himself will expand on the action combat and detailed environments of the first game.

You can check out a new trailer below starting at about 19:30.

Konami's pre-E3 show revealed the game will strip out its predecessor's load times, and provide a more organic world with a free camera for the cursed Belmont to explore.

From his cursed castle to the streets of a modern day city, he'll have a lot of ground to cover, and many foes, from the angelic to the demonic, to overcome. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will go for the jugular on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
