Ubisoft's online systems were hacked, and its account data were compromised. The illegally accessed information includes user names, email addresses, and encrypted password. The publisher is asking all users (if you've ever signed up for Uplay, that's you) to reset their passwords via this page.
Ubisoft clarified that it doesn't store any personal payment information on a support page, so don't worry about canceling credit cards. But it would be a very good idea to change the password unilaterally if you used it for any other services.
Ubisoft says it is investigating the unauthorized access with relevant authorities and security experts. Its website remains closed for maintenance at the time of this writing.

If these bastards can't be trusted with our data they should be banned from collecting it in future. Simple. The data is hugely valuable to these companies as a way of connecting with the consumer in a way that old fashioned 'off the shelf' retail couldn't deliver. Losing the right to collect and store their customer's information would be a real kick in the balls and might get them thinking about how to handle people's personal information responsibly because fines just aren't having any effect. Hopefully the hackers involved have just done it to prove a point that these companies are taking the piss out of us and aren't actually planning to use the data in a malicious way.
