Ubisoft's online systems were hacked, and its account data were compromised. The illegally accessed information includes user names, email addresses, and encrypted password. The publisher is asking all users (if you've ever signed up for Uplay, that's you) to reset their passwords via this page.

Ubisoft clarified that it doesn't store any personal payment information on a support page, so don't worry about canceling credit cards. But it would be a very good idea to change the password unilaterally if you used it for any other services.

Ubisoft says it is investigating the unauthorized access with relevant authorities and security experts. Its website remains closed for maintenance at the time of this writing.

If these bastards can't be trusted with our data they should be banned from collecting it in future. Simple. The data is hugely valuable to these companies as a way of connecting with the consumer in a way that old fashioned 'off the shelf' retail couldn't deliver. Losing the right to collect and store their customer's information would be a real kick in the balls and might get them thinking about how to handle people's personal information responsibly because fines just aren't having any effect. Hopefully the hackers involved have just done it to prove a point that these companies are taking the piss out of us and aren't actually planning to use the data in a malicious way. Reply Report

First act of Broken Age coming to Steam in January

Broken Age, AKA the Double Fine Adventure, will release with some assembly required. Its first half will hit Steam Early Access in January 2014, studio founder (and Broken Age designer) Tim Schafer wrote in an update to Kickstarter backers.

The campaign blew past its initial goal of $400,000 to raise more than $3 million, but Schafer still managed to design too big a game.

"I think I just have an idea in my head about how big an adventure game should be, so it’s hard for me to design one that’s much smaller than Grim Fandango or Full Throttle," he admitted. "There’s just a certain amount of scope needed to create a complex puzzle space and to develop a real story. At least with my brain, there is."

The studio explored a few other funding options: it diverted some cash from its released games to Broken Age, and it cut as much unnecessary content as possible. But it still needed more funds for a satisfactory schedule.

With the new plan, backers still get beta access early, and everybody else can buy the game on Steam in January. Then the second act will arrive in an update sometime from April to May.

"With this shipping solution I think we’re balancing the size of the game and the realities of funding it pretty well," Schafer wrote. "We are still working out the details and exact dates, but we’d love to hear your thoughts. This project has always been something we go through together and the ultimate solution needs to be something we all feel good about."

Before you wander the streets of Los Santos, dazed by the grim reality that you no longer have GTA 5's release to look forward to, you'll need to install the game. Rockstar answered several fan-submitted questions on its Newswire today, including some specifics on how all that crime-ridden goodness will hit your console.

First off, the Xbox 360 version will ship with two discs: the first will be used only to install and the second will be used to play. The PlayStation 3 version just uses one Blu-ray, as usual. After the install is done, players won't have to swap discs in the single-player or multiplayer modes.

Speaking of, Rockstar revealed GTA 5's multiplayer will be called Grand Theft Auto Online, though that's the only new bit of info on that front. Don't worry about missing out on the traditional GTA poster, either--Rockstar confirmed that a double-sided map will be included with the standard editions of the game.

Finally, Rockstar accepted a question about a potential PC version of the game just to dodge it once more:

"The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which are set for a September 17 worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now."

Our friends at PC Gamer did some Maths estimating when Rockstar will finally fess up to a PC version, if you're impatient.

The screens and crap they've been showing sure as hell aren't the console versions. They make it on PC, pimp it out using PC, then hold off on PC release for months. Reply Report

It could take 5 discs for all I care, it's fucking GTAV, as if I'm going to be annoyed by an install for this game. Reply Report

If the installation of a game is going to be mandatory, I think this method is probably the best way to do it. It's certainly better than L.A. Noire and Mass Effect 2 and 3, having to switch discs every time you want to go back and replay some other part of the game. Reply Report

--or you could just play it on your PS3--you know cause when it comes to disc drives--360 is quite antiquated Reply Report

TheMariner - 7 hours, 44 minutes ago

That's a little ridiculous. Although, considering it's a large, open-world game, I probably would have installed the disc to the hard drive anyway to improve loading times. I guess they just made that mandatory. Reply Report

Dammit Rockstar, just tell us! If it's coming to PS4, I will wait for that version. If there is no news on a next-gen version before the PS360 release, I will buy the current gen version and that's it. I will not be buying the game twice. Reply Report

majamaki - 7 hours, 29 minutes ago

They've already said its only for the current generation and that they won't focus on next generation until after GTAV is launched. Reply Report

--yeah if you wanna play the game--go ahead and pre-order the current one--its gonna be selling out like a MF for the first few months--and its gonna be A WHILE before the next gen version drops--theyll re-market it and EVERYTHING Reply Report

So they've just confirmed a next-gen and PC version of GTA V. "We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release AT THIS TIME." Anytime a company says "at this time," that means its going to happen. Reply Report

I don't have anything to share about the truth of that inference at this time. Reply Report
