Ubisoft teases Beyond Good & Evil 2 reveal

Ubisoft is teasing a reveal for the long awaited adventure sequel, Beyond Good & Evil 2. This image (left) recently appeared on the official Ubisoft Facebook page, showing off a new image of Pey'J--one of the main characters from the original game.

The text on the site reads "We’re a bit busy prepping for E3. Time to call in some reinforcements."

The game has been in planning / development for years. The first time it surfaced was in this early concept footage from 2008, which points to a game running on hardware more powerful than current Xbox or PlayStation hardware. In other words, it looks like a PS4 or Xbox One game to us...

Unless the first footage leaks early, expect to see Beyond Good & Evil 2 for the first time at Ubisoft's E3 2013 press conference, which starts at 3pm Pacific time, 11pm UK time.

Patrice Desilets sues Ubisoft for $400k

Following his alleged firing last month, Patrice Désilets has sued Ubisoft for $400,000 and the ability to acquire the rights to 1666: Amsterdam. In January, Ubisoft bought THQ Montreal and a number of its properties, including 1666, a project headed up by Désilets, who served as a key creative talent at the French publisher before leaving for THQ in 2010.

Désilets briefly returned to Ubisoft as part of the deal, but the reunion wasn’t a happy one. Last month, Ubisoft confirmed that the former Assassin’s Creed creative director had left the company after discussions designed to align the pair’s visions proved unsuccessful; Désilets countered by claiming he was “handed a termination notice and unceremoniously escorted out of the building”.

According to court documents obtained by Game Informer, Désilets is also seeking to secure the rights to 1666 following Ubisoft’s decision to suspend development of the title. Désilets argues that a clause in his THQ contract (which was said to have been taken on by Ubisoft) grants him the ability to acquire the rights to 1666 and certain assets should the title be cancelled.

In a statement issued to Polygon, Ubisoft said: "As stated before, the acquisition of THQ Montréal in January allowed Ubisoft to welcome 170 experienced developers to our existing and renowned workforce. Unfortunately, the discussions between Patrice Désilets and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice's and the studio's visions were inconclusive. We received Patrice's legal request and will address it in court. We will make no further comment at this point."

Pre-orders for PS4 and Xbox One may begin Monday afternoon

GameStop may begin accepting pre-orders for PS4 and Xbox One as early as Monday afternoon, a source inside the retailer tells us. Both Sony and Microsoft plan to further detail their respective systems tomorrow, and it looks like GameStop will ride the wave by opening reservations on the same day or the next morning.

The source also told us that GameStop locations may even open early and close late for the occasion.

GameStop is doing everything it can to be the first word in next-gen console purchases for many consumers, regardless of how publishers and console companies decide to handle used games.

Speaking of which, click ahead for more about Xbox One's used games policy.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII E3 trailer

Square-Enix has just dropped a new E3 trailer for next year's backwardly-titled sequel, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Its footage is all taken from this week's E3 demo, and largely features Lightning (who has indeed returned) running around glittering indoor environments fighting large beasties and occasionally climbing ladders and sliding down poles.

Take a look and see what you think.

A shooter? In my Plants vs. Zombies garden? It's more likely than you think.

Signs posted across the Los Angeles Convention Center have revealed Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. It wouldn't be the first time PopCap has engaged in some elaborate parodies for the sake of fun and messaging, but a host of rumors and job listings picked up by Kotaku indicate it's something more.

The listings indicate PopCap is involved on an unusual project: a 3D, multiplayer shooter. Planned for consoles and developed by former members of EA Black Box, Kotaku says Garden Warfare will be "in the vein of Team Fortress 2."

We expect to find out more about the new shooter as well as Plants vs. Zombies 2 at EA's press conference today at 1 p.m. PST.

UK Chart: Grid 2 holds off FIFA

Grid 2 retained the No.1 spot on the UK all formats all prices chart for the week ended June 8, despite a 52 per cent drop in sales. FIFA 13 charted at No.2 for the third week running, followed by two fresh entries; new sci-fi action IP Remember Me debuted at No.3 ahead of Skyrim: Legendary Edition, which includes the original game and all three DLC expansions.

Far Cry 3 fell one spot to No.5, ahead of fellow former chart toppers Dead Island: Riptide and Tomb Raider, while Luigi’s Mansion 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Assassin's Creed III rounded off the top ten.

GfK/Chart-Track Top 10 (previous week):

Grid 2 (Codemasters) FIFA 13 (EA) Remember Me (Capcom) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition (Bethesda) Far Cry 3 (Ubisoft) Dead Island: Riptide (Deep Silver) Tomb Raider (Square Enix) Luigi’s Mansion 2 (Nintendo) Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (Nintendo) Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft)

We said in our Grid 2 review: "As a whole, Grid 2 is a slick, powerful racer that's the result of a clear vision of intense, streamlined competition. It takes few risks yet scratches many itches, offering a compelling experience to fans on all sides of the racing spectrum. While some will question a few design decisions, the overall package delivers on many levels. Put simply, Grid 2 deserves your attention.”
