Bulletstorm 2 dismantled, People Can Fly working on new project

Still waiting for Epic Games to announce a Bulletstorm sequel? Don't hold your breath. This weekend at PAX East, studio boss Mike Capps admitted to GameSpot that while Epic Games has a soft spot for the over-the-top shooter, it recently made the decision to pursue other projects.

"We thought a lot about a sequel, and had done some initial development on it, but we found a project that we thought was a better fit for People Can Fly," said Capps. "We haven't announced that yet, but we will be announcing it pretty soon."

The original Bulletstorm was well received by fans and critics (read our 10/10 Bulletstorm super review), but failed to meet publisher EA's expectations. Capps said sales were further hampered by a less-than-stellar PC port and online piracy, explaining, "We made a PC version of Bulletstorm, and it didn't do very well on PC and I think a lot of that was due to piracy. It wasn't the best PC port ever, sure, but also piracy was a pretty big problem."

Capps added Epic Games would love to return to the series one day, but “right now we don't have anything to talk about”.

As for Epic's future endeavours, director Cliff Bleszinski revealed to PAX East attendees that the studio is working behind the scenes on a PC-exclusive. As PC Gamer points out, this could very well be a new Unreal Tournament game to coincide with Epic's new Unreal Engine 4. Whatever it is, we predict it won't skimp on anti-piracy features.

Resident Evil 6 release date moved up a month to October

You may have noticed an explosion of exciting Capcom news this morning, including new details for the zomberific sequel Resident Evil 6. You can read all about it in our newest preview (Resident Evil 6 preview - RE-boot 2.0?), but one of the most interesting new bits of information on the game came at the end of its newest trailer. Watch and see if you notice:

For those of you that abstained from watching that sweet trailer for some reason, here's the big reveal:

Yes, Resident Evil 6, once planned for a US release on November 20 of this year, now comes out seven weeks earlier on October 2. In this age when publishers are illusive on committing to what year an upcoming game will come out and many releases are plagued by delays, this is a refreshing change. Capcom must be pretty damn confident about the status of RE6 to push it out so early in the fall schedule.

However, it's worth noting that Resident Evil 6 now joins a particularly crowded October. Already the month features huge titles like BioShock Infinite and Assassin's Creed III, which makes us wonder why these companies are avoiding the traditionally bigger month of November. Are they afraid of competing with the next Call of Duty, or perhaps Halo 4? Do they think they'll be overshadowed by the possible launch of Wii U? Whatever the reason, October just got a lot more interesting.

GTA V release date spotted on Rockstar resume

A now-deleted employee record suggests Rockstar is preparing Grand Theft Auto V for a fall 2012 release. The anticipated date was spotted by reporter Dave Oshry on a resume belonging to Rockstar North character animator Alex O'Dwyer, who listed the game as arriving in October 2012.

The resume has since been taken down, however Joystiq managed to grab a screenshot of O'Dwyer's document:

A scan of O'Dwyer's LinkedIn account confirms he is indeed involved in GTA V, which is being developed at Rockstar's UK office. The fact the original CV is nowhere to been is suspect, however Rockstar has yet add its official comments to the mix. Perhaps the team is waiting for a certain electronic gaming expo...?

If GTA V does arrive this October, that will put it in the same launch window as Assassin's Creed III, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and who knows what else has yet to be announced for the holiday season. But hey, what are the holidays without a little healthy competition?

Infinity Ward founders' case against Activision gets new court date

A new court date's been set for the grand courtroom videogame beatdown of the millennium, aka the legal battle between Activision, ousted Infinity Ward heads Jason West/Vince Zampella, and their new patrons at Electronic Arts. The case will now go to trial May 29, reports Game Informer, revised from an earlier date of May 7 which was postponed at Activision's request.

Above: Jason West and Vince Zampella, on the offchance you don't know what they look like

Earlier this year, a judge dismissed additional fraud charges brought by West/Zampella against the House o'Kotick. You can get some background on the case, a chewy morass of industrial espionage, corporate paranoia, accusations and countersuits, at our initial story from the suit's early days last year: Activision targets Electronic Arts in updated lawsuit.

Note that the case's initial court date was May 23 of 2011, giving you some idea just how many holdups, timeouts, rainchecks, postponements and miscellaneous legal acts of heel-dragging it's gone through – and may, for all we know, continue to do. Still, when this does go ahead, it ought to be worth following by anyone who likes Modern Warfare but wishes it had more folk in suits yelling “Objection!” That's all of you, right?
