EDIT: Ubisoft asked us to pull the footage, which was intended to be E3 B-roll for media outlets and is not permitted to be uploaded in its entirety. We've left our description of the video below.
Watch Dogs' multiplayer drops rival hackers into your world, for good or for ill. This latest footage depicting both sides of a more competitive encounter (via CVG) appears to have leaked from Ubisoft's official channels early.
Each player sees him or herself as Aiden Pearce, either hacking or being hacked by a random citizen. A game of cat and mouse begins as the victim tracks down the digital assailant, looking to either kill or at least scare the other player off before the hack is completed. We already knew a bit about how players can help each other through near-future Chicago, but messing with each other looks (as usual) even more fun.
Watch Dogs is set to release on November 19 for PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360, and at launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Nvidia has cut the price of upcoming handheld system Shield by $50 ahead of a newly announced launch date of June 27. Just last month, Nvidia said Shield would release in June priced at $349. Consumers who have already pre-ordered Shield will pay its new $299 price.
Nvidia explained on its blog: "We've heard from thousands of gamers that if the price was $299, we'd have a home run. So we're changing the price of Shield to $299. We want to get Shield into the hands of as many gamers as possible.”
Announced in January, Shield is powered by a Tegra 4 processor and sports an Xbox 360-like controller with a 5" 720p touch screen attached. Nvidia claims that the internal battery allows for 5-10 hours of gameplay and up to 24 hours of video. The device also allows for streaming of games from a PC through a local network and has support for Steam’s Big Picture mode. Games confirmed for release on the platform include Double Fine’s Costume Quest and Broken Age, and Adhesive Games’ mech shooter Hawken.
Microsoft has provided new details about its plan to offer Xbox Live Gold members a number of free games for the remainder of 2013. Alongside the announcement of a new Xbox 360 model during its E3 press conference last week, the platform holder revealed that it would be giving every XBL Gold member two free Xbox 360 game downloads per month starting on July 1 and running until December 31.
Fable 3 is currently free to download until June 30, 2013. New games will become available on the 1st and 16th of each month, with Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 coming in July, OXM reports. “Each specially selected, fan-favourite game will be available to download only for a limited time, so grab them before they’re gone and keep them no matter what,” Microsoft says on Xbox.com.
Inspired by the look of Xbox One, the new 360 model is slimmer and lighter than previous versions. It is available now at the same price points as the last model: $199.99 estimated retail price for the 4GB console, $299.99 for the 250GB edition and $299.99 for the 4GB Kinect Bundle.
2K has announced plans to release a number of narrative-driven DLC packs for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. In development at BioShock 2 studio 2K Marin, the game centres around a squad of Cold War era Bureau agents dispatched to Rosemont, Georgia on a mission to overcome an unknown threat and keep the incident concealed from the public.
While DLC will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the first add-on pack will be exclusive to Microsoft’s console. 2K Marin development director Morgan Gray said: “The alternate 1962 universe that we’ve created for The Bureau is vast and there are many more stories to tell about the early days of XCOM. We’re excited that our stories will provide a new perspective on the war effort, much like how our critically acclaimed Minvera’s Den DLC for BioShock 2 allowed us to present a unique perspective of Rapture.”
Those who pre-order The Bureau: XCOM Declassified through participating retailers will receive access to a bonus campaign side-mission called Codebreakers, in which players are sent to investigate a communications facility that has gone dark. Additionally, players who pre-order from GameStop will receive the Light Plasma Pistol as an exclusive in-game item.
2K has confirmed a The Bureau: XCOM Declassified release date of August 20, 2013 in North America and August 23 internationally, matching up with the Splinter Cell Blacklist release date and the Saints Row 4 release date. While Sony Japan announced an official Vita price cut in February, one year after the system launched, in a bid to boost sales of the underperforming handheld, the company’s European and US arms have resisted following suit, instead opting for limited-time offers and promotions. If you haven’t already done so, would the Mega Pack tempt you to pick up a Vita?
