Pokemon X & Y trailer showcases sparkly new 3D gameplay

Nintendo has just dropped a new trailer for this year's upcoming Pokemon X & Y on the 3DS. Showing off the series' first major graphical overhaul, it features the game's sparkling, fully-3D environments, exploration and battles, as well as highlighting new Pokemon types and the virtual pet-style Pokemon-Amie mode. 

Pokemon X & Y certainly looks like a true upgrade to a series long-content to follow its admittedly excellent tried-and-trusted formula. A proper, next-gen evolution? All signs currently point to "Yes", but we'll of course bring you our definitive verdict when the game launches worldwide in October.

Real time-ish tactical combat in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified trailer

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified fuses third-person shooting with turn-based strategy. The XCOM name implies tactical excellence, and this newest trailer from developer 2K Marin shows how the game's "Battle Focus" mode keeps the fight moving and commands flowing.

Players can slow the action to a snail's pace to direct squadmates, but unlike The Bureau's bird's-eye cousin, the battle never stops completely. If you want to keep your AI-controlled buddies from the jaws of permanent death, you'll have to stay aware and active at all times.

The Bureau will release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20 in North America and August 23 internationally. Check out our most recent preview for more info.

When Square Enix turned Final Fantasy Versus XIII into Final Fantasy 15, it introduced the first main entry in the RPG series to outright abandon turn-based battles for action combat. Check out this extended combat clip before you decide whether to be excited or outraged about it.

Party members still contribute to the melee with cinematic saves and attacks, but it looks like players will only directly control blink-happy protagonist Noctis--most of the time, at least.

Call me old fashioned or a Final Fantasy hipster, but I don't want this from a FF game. I want to play turn based, team battles where I control everything. It sounds too familiar to XIII, maybe a bit more action based, but I wasn't a fan of that. Reply Report

Looks very cool and cinematic and all that, but I'll reserve judgement until I've actually got my hands on it so I can see how the combat feels to me. I honestly much prefer them to go all out with action instead of a turn based combat, if said alternative would be like the combat system found in either FFXII or FFXIII. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of either of those systems, and if they aren't willing to go back to the good old, proper, direct traditional combat of the first 10 core games, then yeah, this looks much better to me.Besides, unlike KH's combat, this one doesn't look like a combat system that's "good for an RPG". What I saw has potential to be as in depth and rival the combat of full fledged action games like DMC or bayonetta. Of course, it helps that Noctis's teleport abilities seem to be readily available, lending much more agility to the combat overall.What I'm curious to know, is how exactly are the team attacks going to work, what we saw there looked pretty cool, but it seems like it could be tricky, or too much of a hassle to make it happen. Then again... seeing as the result ended with that whole giant dead, one probably doesn't want to allow them to be too easy to pull off XD. At any rate, I just hope they can be all just as creative, and feel natural enough to the rest of the gameplay.Most of all, I'm just happy that after almost a decade, we're FINALLY getting once again a FF game that shows proper promise. I think this has a lot of potential and could be a ton of fun to play. I'll miss more classic RPG conventions but there's 12 other non MMO entries in the franchise to enjoy if you want the classic stuff. I say bring on the change, this could be the breath of fresh air the series needs. One entry doing things a little differently won't kill a franchise and it might wind up being amazingly well received. It looks a lot like a more serious, tactical and in depth version of the Kingdom Hearts battle system, which with some polish could really deliver. I'd like to see how summons will be handled, but the magic and melee looks really solid. I particularly like Noctis' ability to blink around in combat, it adds a bit of flare and speed to the encounters that helps liven up the potentially monotonous slash happy gameplay.I do worry that his will alienate a large portion of the dedicated Final Fantasy fanbase, however, as not everyone who plays FF enjoys playing action games. I'm expecting to hear a rather large outcry of "THIS ISN'T FINAL FANTASY ANYMORE, IT'S AN ACTION GAME AND NOT AN RPG BAWWWW!" While I definitely understand that sentiment, I say give them a shot, can't hurt to try something new. Reply Report

3DS Legend of Zelda trailer finally gives us a title

The new trailer for Nintendo's 3DS Zelda shows plenty of new and familiar features while finally being kind enough to give us an official name. Titled The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, the combination of classic 2D gameplay and the new wall-hugging ability can be seen in all of its glory below.

Also worth note is the official logo seen on the title screen. A triforce above an inverted, shadowy version of the series icon, the chances of a shadow world within the game have never been stronger. Between this, the gameplay and the new title, the upcoming release is wearing its ties to A Link to the Past on its sleeve.

Mario Kart 8 release date announced in first trailer

Nintendo finally revealed the next installment in the Mario Kart series, simply called Mario Kart 8. In the trailer, it was shown that players karts took on the attributes of the vehicles from previous titles.

The motorcycles from Mario Kart Wii appeared as well as the underwater track elements of Mario Kart 7. But brand new to the series is the theme of anti-gravity. Karts morph into futuristic hovercrafts and can attach to the track to travel upside down. In one section of the video, players were shown driving on top of the track and underneath at the same time.

Mario Kart 8 will be coming to the Wii U in Spring 2014, be sure to check back for more information.

Bayonetta 2 trailer shows gameplay, haircut and 2014 release

Bayonetta 2 for Wii U will be released in 2014 according to a special E3 broadcast of Nintendo Direct. A new CG trailer and gameplay trailer were both shown (see below), in which Bayonetta's new haircut was revealed. Yep, it's now short and spiky, like Zoe Wanamaker, but also with Bayonetta's trademark lengthy locks still intact in order to execute her brutal 'Megaton' finishing moves on bosses.

The gameplay trailer shows a boss fight on the top of a moving train, as well as some familiar-looking platform leaping in thy sky. Platinum Games' trademark directorial flair is also evident: look out for Bayonetta fireing a barrage of bullets at an assailant, which a slow-motion camera pan reveals to be in a heart formation. Looking great, but 2014 is quite the wait...

Monolith Soft E3 trailer shows mechs, mechs, giant swords, mechs

A new trailer for Monolith Soft's X was shown during Nintendo's E3 2013 Direct stream, showcasing humongous swords and even bigger mechs. This is the studio's follow-up to Xenoblade Chronicles, which we've talked about a bit in the past, and is set to release sometime in 2014.

While the basic gameplay looks very similar to that of Xenoblade, you can also pilot giant mechs called Dolls, which can not only fly, but also transform into badass tanks. There's been no confirmation yet as to whether or not this is an MMO or a multiplayer JRPG, but we're almost certain it has an online cooperative component. Stay tuned for more info.

Killzone Shadow Fall trailer shows off the next gen

Sony showed off this trailer for the upcoming entry in one of their best-selling series, Killzone Shadow Fall. Featuring plenty of new gameplay, shooter fans can look forward to shooting the prettiest Helghast yet.

Destiny E3 2013 gameplay trailer is gorgeous

Destiny is looking better and better every time we see it. At Sony's E3 2013 press conference, Bungie took the stage to show off gameplay for the FPS/MMO hybrid, and what we saw looked fantastic. New Arkham Origins trailer shows off Batman’s new voice

We all knew that Batman: Arkham Origins was coming to the PS3, but at Sony’s E3 press conference, the company revealed a brand new trailer for the game, featuring Batman’s new voice. And Sony also revealed some exclusive DLC. Check out the video below:

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII E3 trailer

Square-Enix has just dropped a new E3 trailer for next year's backwardly-titled sequel, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Its footage is all taken from this week's E3 demo, and largely features Lightning (who has indeed returned) running around glittering indoor environments fighting large beasties and occasionally climbing ladders and sliding down poles.

Watch Dogs E3 trailer leaks prematurely. Watch it here!

Ubisoft's E3 press conference is scheduled to take place this evening. And this Watch Dogs trailer is surely supposed to be a part of it. But somehow it's hit the internet already, which means you can see it now. Sadly, it appears to be pre-rendered instead of showing actual gameplay, but that will probably be shown tonight.

The game is due out on November 19 for current-gen formats and will be released for next-gen consoles too on an as-yet-unspecified date.

Garrett steals more jewelry in live-action Thief trailer

Garrett is a sneaky bastard. How sly is he? He's so sly he passed off a bunch of live-action footage, which depicts pretty much the same stuff as a CGI trailer from April, as a new Thief teaser for E3.

Check out the new one below and the debut trailer at the bottom to compare for yourself.

We've seen some screenshots for the game, but we hope developer Eidos-Montreal is finally ready to pull back the curtain on the game in action at E3 next week. Thief will hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2014.

The gang's back together in this Saints Row IV trailer

Even as the world goes mad, Saints Row IV remembers its roots. The trailer below shows us the passion of the President (who happens to be naked for, like, half of it) and the many familiar faces he'll rely on to bring down the alien threat to his constituents.

Ben King, leader of the Vice Kings from the original game, and Saints Row 2-era stoner Shaundi, rejoin the fun, and... well, Keith David already voiced a character in the series (Saints founder Julius Little) but sure, why not cast him as himself?!

We'll see more of Saints Row IV at E3 next week, and you can grab it on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20.

Nazis win in Wolfenstein: The New Order trailer

Wolfenstein: The New Order lets the Nazis win. Only for a while, of course--just until Greatest Generation Poster Child B.J. Blaskowicz wakes up from his coma in 1960--but it's long enough for them to take over the U.S. The new trailer below shows America on its knees as the Third Reich soars to cultural and technological domination.

The last big shooter that tried to goad us into a xenophobic rage with scenes of conquered Main Street overplayed its hand. Fortunately, given our recent preview, this grim alternate reality is given some unexpected levity by a one-liner-quipping Blaskowicz.

The New Order begins on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, in the fourth quarter of 2013. We'll see more at E3 next week.

Krieg's inner voice speaks in this Borderlands 2 trailer

What's going on in the mind of Krieg, the juiced up Psycho who joined Borderlands 2's cast of vault hunters earlier this month? A lot, as this trailer reveals, but it isn't quite enough to squeak by his endless bloodlust and non sequitur declarations.

Is Krieg's inner voice a tragic metaphor for the player's desire to interact with the world of Pandora in meaningful ways, constrained by actions limited to "shoot" and "use?" Sure, why not, either way the character still costs $10.

Also, Borderlands 2 players will get one last hurrah of shooting and using when the D&D-themed Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep launches on June 25. It's the final piece of the $30 season pass, and will also be available for $10 on its own.

New Rain trailer reveals autumn 2013 release

Sony has released a new trailer for Rain, the atmospheric stealth-oriented PS3 adventure from PlayStation C.A.M.P!, the team behind titles including Tokyo Jungle and Echochrome. The game tells the story of a boy attempting to track and rescue a girl being hunted by ghostly creatures in the mysterious “world of rain”. Both characters take the form of silhouettes only visible in the rain, and players interact with the environment, solve puzzles and use the rain to guide and protect them.

The new trailer and fresh screenshots posted above showcase a number of locations, from a church to a brightly lit circus and an abandoned factory. “It is here that the boy discovers that when he walks through mud he can be seen by any enemy and only by walking through a deep rain puddle to wash off the mud will he be able to hide once again,” says associate producer Dais Kawaguchi.

Sony plans to share more about Rain at E3 next month, when it will let attendees go hands-on with the game. Following a look at the title in March, we wrote in this Rain preview: “Rain conveys its theme of uncertainty in a convincing fashion, even with just a few minutes of seeing the game. We're already intrigued by the lonely, depressing world, and its invisible characters.”

Sonic Lost Worlds debut trailer goes fast

The hyperspeed needlemouse is back in form in the IGN debut trailer for Sonic Lost Worlds. The Sega/Nintendo collaboration looks like a fast, frenzied version of Super Mario Galaxy. We're not complaining.

No ancient ruins, pistol-packing hedgehogs, or insufferable emerald-collecting Knuckles levels here. Just a couple of colorful punks threatening cute woodland creatures and a blue blur streaking by to defeat them.

We'll see if Sonic Lost Worlds can restore the classic franchise when it debuts exclusively on Wii U and 3DS in 2013.

Trailer shows Shin Megami Tensei IV's app of the samurai

Shin Megami Tensei IV has a lot going on. Much like the Persona series it spawned, the original line fuses traditional dungeon crawling with some inventive extracurriculars. Get a video look at the game in action here.

No demon-slaying samurai would dream of embarking into the post-apocalyptic Japanese wasteland without a demon fusing app. That's bush league stuff, Atlus--tell us something we don't know.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a five-minute trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins. The video shows Batman taking out a number of goons before facing off against Deathstroke and squaring up to Black Mask. Announced last month and due for release on October 25, Arkham Origins is set before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals. It stars a young and unrefined Batman who faces a defining moment in his early crime fighting career when eight assassins are dispatched to kill him.

The prequel is in the works at Warner Bros. Games Montreal, rather than former series developer Rocksteady Studios. Among other changes, Origins ditches the classic Batman voice actors in favour of some new blood. We’ve seen the game and the results are a bit mixed. Additionally, Warner confirmed today that Deathstroke will be a fully playable character in the game’s challenge mode. Fans who pre-order the game on Xbox 360, PS3 or PC will receive exclusive early access to the Deathstroke DLC pack.

I want this to be good, but this being good will depend on how much they get right compared to the previous games. I don't think anything less than the same kind of quality as Arkham City will suffice. The changes kind of scare me, but it could be fun playing as a more brutal Batman, one less refined. I do dig the story too. The assassins angle is cool and could bring some really nifty villains to the forefront. Reply Report

Sigh... I don't like trailers that have no gameplay footage at all but at least it's better then a live action trailer. But I am also getting really annoyed at pre-order bonuses. I don't mind if it's something small like a extra costume or weapons but with an extra damage increasing sticker but if it's something as cool as playing as Deathstroke I feel like I'm being ripped off. Other than that I am looking forward to seeing the game and possibly buying it. Reply Report

Hm, kinda wish to have seen actual gameplay footage, but can't be denied that the trailer was beautifully made, that fight between Batman and Deathstroke was badass and easily better than all the fights seen in actual batman films combined. Here's just hoping that at least some of that gets translated into actual gameplay. I'd love to be able to break a sword like that in game. Reply Report

Indeed - Rocksteady got everyone in the mood for AC with a wonderful CG trailer (where Batman squared off against the TIGER Mercs) and I'm really getting the same vibe from this trailer. I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros. Montreal extend Bat's "Disarm and Destroy" move to include swords, so you may just get your wish.N.B.
