Lost Planet 3 screens beat Dead Space to the “snow 'n' faceless horrors” punch

Here's a batch of new screens (via Siliconera) for Lost Planet 3, Capcom's return to the snowy sci-fi series it began in 2006. This title, as revealed in our Lost Planet 3 first-look, serves as a prequel to the first game, which is a good excuse for new protagonist Jim Peyton to be doubly surprised when all the game's nightmarish Lovecraftian spider-turtle-lamprey things come haring after him.

Last year brought, via an “EA insider,” a report: EA looking to branch Dead Space out beyond the numbered series - whose third installment is underway and set to take place on a freezing ice-world full of freaky nightmare-creatures. Much like these glimpses of Lost Planet 3, then, which is looking to incorporate more of Capcom's signature survival horror than previous installments.

Can the gaming world possibly withstand two titles that are kind of like futuristic versions of The Thing? Yes, yes it probably can – but it'll still be interesting to see how the titles distinguish themselves. Hopefully straws have been drawn to see which title gets to include zombies.
