Microsoft has said that first-party Xbox One games will be priced at $59.99. A spokesperson for the company confirmed to Polygon that Microsoft Studios games on the new console will carry the same manufacturer's suggested retail price as Xbox 360 titles have this generation.

Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton recently told CNBC that PS4 game prices will range from $.99 to $60 games, although SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida wouldn’t confirm this in an interview with Kotaku. Activision and Ubisoft also declined to offer software pricing plans, although we presume they'll follow the platform holders' guidance.

During an E3 2013 analyst call last week, EA COO Peter Moore said he doesn't expect software prices to increase next-gen, noting: "You see a $60 price for a next-gen game whereas we believe [with digital downloads] we can get $70, $80, $90 from the consumer, but it's a $60 price point."

Last Monday, Microsoft confirmed that Xbox One will launch in 21 markets this November priced at £430 / $500. The following day, Sony revealed the actual PS4 hardware for the first time at its E3 press conference, where it also announced a Christmas release date and a PS4 price of £349 / €399 / $399.

I was hoping that because of all of the digital downloads and always online checks and restricted used games, the price of games for Xbox One will be considerably less. This seems like the last straw for me as a consumer, Xbox is fading away for me at the moment. Who know's I might pick one up a few years down the line but for instant next gen lovliness, it's looking like PS4. Reply Report

Obscene pricing is obscene. It would be interesting if to see how much valve sell with steam. I know when it is a sale I buy like crazy and I often make impulse purchases. I NEVER do that at a shop where the price is £40-50. Better value, better service = more profit and less piracy. Reply Report

Sad that they don't realize they could eliminate used game sales AND increase profits by eliminating DRM completely and selling new games at $30. They would easily sell triple or quadruple the amount, and no one would even bother trading games in. Reply Report

How would eliminating DRM decrease used game sales? The reason Used games exist is because of lack of DRM Reply Report

And yet games will still cost up to twice that over here... ;_;*Australian world problems.* Reply Report

Not just that, whenever they say "no price increase in the USA," it usually means "we'll be increasing prices in Aus/NZ to keep prices down in the USA." Reply Report

No surprise here; even PC games come out at full ticket price at launch. What'll be interesting to see is whether Microsoft can capitalise on their tightly-controlled digital distribution system (the one that's caused all this pain) and offer up some Steam-like sales! I can only hope. Reply Report

...EA really believe they can squeeze $90 out of someone for a single game purchase? Yeah they're out of their minds. Complete idiocy :| Reply Report

Read the statement carefully. That's including DLC. They are saying they can get you to pay $60 for the game and then hook you into $10-30 worth of DLC add-on crap, avatars and the like. Which if anything has been learned this gen, it's that Activision somehow managed to easily get $120 out of customers every year. Reply Report

If you are referring to digital downloads that means the game just digital version, if it meant DLC then it would say DLC Reply Report

Battlefield 3 has a few expansion packs at $15 each, so they're already able to do it :P Reply Report

"You see a $60 price for a next-gen game whereas we believe [with digital downloads] we can get $70, $80, $90 from the consumer, but it's a $60 price point."It is a little strangely worded, but it's clear he is referring to add on charges such as DLC. If he was talking about the digital version of the base game, 1) there's no way anyone would buy it if it was $30 more expensive than going to the store and buying a disk version, and 2), the last part of the sentence referred to "$60 price point", which clearly means the game itself remains $60, and the extra money comes from other stuff. The phrase "we can get $70..... from the consumer" is somewhat ambiguous in it's phrasing, but seems to be talking about how they milk you for extras after you buy the game at $60. Reply Report

I think the majority of what he's referring to will indeed be DLC of various quality, (I don't mind extra mission packs that actually expand on a games experience, but I'll never understand why people are willing to pay real money for different coloured costumes and pointless avatars). But this is EA, and on the UK Playstation store at least there's been plenty of examples of them selling digital copies of games at release for £5-£10 more than in a retail store, for no discernible reason, and in the case of Mass Effect they significantly increased the price of the individual games to make the full trilogy version appear to represent more value than it actually did.
