Orcs Must Die! Multiplayer confirmed for newly-revealed sequel

Robot Entertainment, publisher of last year's tower-defense genre-bender Orcs Must Die!, has just announced it's preparing the game's sequel for release later this year. Orcs Must Die! 2 will bump up the offensive and defensive items available to players, overhaul the game's upgrade system, and add a second playable character, the Sorceress, for co-op runs through the sequel's new campaign mode.

The original Orcs Must Die! made our list of the best downloadable games of 2011, and the sequel looks to contain plenty of potential improvements on its predecessor. The game's so far only been confirmed for PC (Robot says the game's console port didn't kill enough orcs to justify a sequel), and while it's not due for release until this Summer, it'll be playable at this weekend's PAX East in Boston. To make sure you have orcs to kill between now and the sequel's release, Robot Entertainment promises the second game will contain exclusive unlocks for owners of both titles.

Leisure Suit Larry HD remake takes to Kickstarter

Last year we heard Austin's Replay Games was preparing Leisure Suit Larry to recieve the HD treatment. But when you've been a fortysomething sad-sack for some 25 years, things don't just spring right back into action without a little time and coaxing, you know. So now Replay's jumping on the Kickstarter bandwagon (the studio's words, not ours) and offering you – yes, you, sitting right there with the spare $5,000 cluttering up your living room – the chance to appear in-game in exchange for funding.

Pledge rewards for contributing to Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded range from $15, which gets you a download link when the game's finished, all the way up to absurd $50,000 rewards involving Las Vegas weekends and your name as an Easter egg where Sierra founder Ken Williams' would once have gone. You can even offer $5000 for the honor of appearing in-game and railing against the ills of contraception! We'd like to see your cute crowd-funded indie adventure do that. (Don't actually do that: have fun but stay safe, no glove no love, mmkay, etc).

The human race has lost 235,000 years to Halo

Bungie has posted a final farewell to Halo fans on Bungie.net. Unsurprising seeing as they're not making the series any more (343 Industries appear to be doing a fine job with that). But in typical Bungie fashion, it's not just a short, sweet, 'so long and thanks for all the fish'. This message comes with some suitably epic multiplayer statistics gathered over the past eight years. And of course it's as overblown as the unforgettable Bungie's emotional farewell to Halo: A dramatic reading.

"We have followed your careers with great interest here on Bungie.net, and you have gifted us a mountain of heroic moments to memorialize. It is with a sense of awe that we step back and admire the impact that you have had on our games, and upon our studio. Thanks for sharing your stories with us."

We've included the complete breakdown as published by Bungie below, but it's worth highlighting a few of the individual stats:

235,182: Total number of human years invested in the game. Apparently that's long enough to travel "the expanse of the Milky Way at the speed of light... and back."

136,128,511,043 - total number of online kills. That's more than 22 times the number of people living on planet Earth right now. And Bungie says only 108,000,000,000 people have EVER lived on Earth. So we've killed more than the entire human race. Our bad.

108,548,388,596 - the total number of online weapon kills. We can confirm most of these were not at our expense - but most of the melee ones probably were. Curse you melee attack!

It is a bit sad to think that this is the last time Bungie will publish crazy stats about Halo, but we're sure they'll publish equally overblown musings in their future projects so there should be more whimsical utterances soon. Here's the final breakdown in its entirety:

Above: 'See you starside'? LOL. I mean... mmm, totally. Starside, man

When you have to rescue the woman in red from the King Mummy, there will be a pyramid in the room. His health will keep coming back if you hit him, so focus on destroying the pyramid. Then he will run off but don't worry. You get to finish him off later, without his invincibility.

When you get to the part in the jungle where you fight alongside Mr. Fantastic, hurry and put the golden statues on the stands. Make sure you keep playing as The Thing. All you have to do is run around and fight all the Indian looking guys and collect health and upgrades. Mr. Fantastic will fight too and eventually he will use his stretch punch to knock the eyes closed. Then you can go inside.

Entry Location:

The Moleman's pet is actually quite easy to beat. Be sure to play as Sue. Keep fighting and eventually you will see her white 4 spot on one side of the creature, go up to it and create a force field. Soon you will see one on the other side. Repeat until the creature blows rings out of it's mouth. Dodge them and you will see a red spot on it's neck. Keep repeatedly jumping up and attacking it and repeating as many times as needed and eventually you will beat it.

In the Tikal 1 level, near the end, when you meet up with Reed, don't put the golden statues in their places and don't destroy the golden eyes on the big head statues. When you do this Diablo's minions will continue to respawn so you can gain unlimited experience points. When one hero's health gets low, switch to the other healthy hero (don't worry your previous low health hero will not die when he is controlled by the computer). When you have gained as much experience as you like or your both your hero's health gets too low to fight, switch to your original hero(Ben "The thing") put the statues in their proper places and destroy the eyes with Reed's stretch arm attack. Continue through the door and you've completed the level.

Ok, first, play as the Human Torch. Diablo is fast, so you'll need him. Diablo will teleport from one place to another. When he does, find him and beat him up. Then he will go to the center of the valley and transform. Don't try and hit him then, he's invincible. When he changes back, he will be tired, so then he stands there panting. This is when you can get the most damage on him. Use the Thing on him then. Press X over and over until he teleports. Then go back to the Human Torch. The reason for using the human torch is because he's the fastest member of the team. Eventually, you will beat Diablo if you use this strategy.

When you are battling Horus play as the Human Torch and use firewall on Horus. You have to do this 3 times.

World of Warcraft Mega Bloks Season 1 collection revealed

Technology has now advanced to the point where smooth, high-res graphics are the default: yesterday's blocky, angular creations are scorned and driven away with memory upgrades and options tweaks, that everything onscreen might look as sleek and crisp as possible. But those chunky block-constructions of yesteryear aren't forgotten completely. You wouldn't want World of Warcraft, for instance, to look like it was knocked together out of Mega Bloks – unless you'd just bought a licensed WoW Mega Bloks set, in which case, yep, that's exactly what you'd want.

First announced at BlizzCon (BlizzCon 2011: Mega Blocks Thrall figure), Mega Bloks' WoW Season 1 Collection includes standalone faction heroes, constructible mounts, and several large-size blocky tableaux to allow fort-bound character battles between you and your (possibly imaginary) friends. Slated for a Summer release, the Collection should theoretically allow for compromises between WoW-addicted youth and their parents. Of course, in practice they'll all be enshrined, unopened, on the toy-shelves of well-heeled geeks – but we're sure they'll look very nice there too.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion trailer shows off the game's new look

We've previously been over some static images of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion's graphical overhaul, showing how the once-fancy-looking game still looks plenty nice thanks to a revamped visuals engine. However, this new clip contains some 25 new images per second of the game's improved graphics, which would be a staggering amount of new information to take in were it not tied together with a gravelly voiceover explaining what you need to know about the game's backstory.

http://www.gamesradar.com/sins-solar-empire-rebellion-trailer-shows-games-new-look/

Rebellion, the first standalone expansion for the 2008 RTS, will bring more than just a graphical overhaul when it's released in a couple months' time. The title also adds Rebel and Loyalist factions to each race, each of them with their own new craft and resources. Stardock leaked a beta version of the title to pre-order customers last month, and is teasing a second iteration of the beta soon.

The company's also offering a $10 pre-order discount on the expansion for owners of the original game's Trinity collected edition. If that sounds to you like a good excuse to pick up the original for a bit of practice, you might just about be done with your first game by the time the expansion's released...

Mass Effect 3 update: Cupcakes for hungry kids, because Mass Effect

Just like any good ending, the saga of Mass Effect 3 took another twist today – and just like the conclusion of a saga as heroic as Bioware's, the new development is a pretty virtuous touch indeed. However, it won't really have any impact on how the actual game turns out, which is sort of what fans have been complaining about all along. Yes, this is about the cupcakes.

Above: Intentions be damned - the day this arrives on your desk is the day you know you're doing something right in life

Surely you remember back to the Mass Effect 3 Ending Controversy, Day 22 – when frustrated fans decided that the way to Bioware's heart was through the universal appeal of sugary baked-goods. Now the cupcakes have arrived at Bioware (story via Game Informer), looking every bit as tasty as they are ideologically cogent. However, “ultimately,” says Bioware's Chris Priestley, “[the gesture] was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team.” So said team don't get any cupcakes after all.

Instead, all 402 cakes have been donated to a local youth shelter, allowing kids who can't afford Mass Effect the chance to enjoy the choice between three functionally-identical things. So Bioware's feeding the hungry, which is heartwarming and great – but is the studio also saddling poor kids with the exact same dilemma fans accuse it of creating in the first place? And before you answer, how many delicious cupcakes have you given away to charity today?
